A rare autoimmune disease clinical trial had experienced significant enrollment delays despite being open for recruitment for two years. After 24 months, only three participants had enrolled, while a 48% screen failure rate continued to threaten study timelines and overall trial success. The sponsor needed a new recruitment strategy capable of overcoming awareness, eligibility, and participation barriers within a highly specialized patient population.
PAS was engaged to revitalize recruitment efforts and help the sponsor regain enrollment momentum before further delays impacted study objectives.
PAS implemented a patient-driven recruitment strategy developed in collaboration with members of the patient community. Working alongside advocacy partners and key stakeholders, PAS identified barriers contributing to low enrollment and incorporated patient-informed insights into recruitment messaging and outreach activities.
The resulting campaign combined advocacy partnerships, targeted outreach initiatives, educational resources, and experience-informed messaging designed to improve awareness of the trial and help eligible participants better understand the opportunity. By aligning communications with the realities of the patient journey, PAS created a more approachable and effective recruitment experience.
The PAS-led recruitment campaign successfully transformed a stalled study into a fully enrolled clinical trial. Within 12 months of launch, the study achieved full enrollment with 111 participants despite strict eligibility requirements and previous enrollment challenges.
By combining patient insight, advocacy engagement, and targeted recruitment strategies, PAS helped the sponsor overcome longstanding enrollment barriers, accelerate recruitment performance, and achieve study enrollment objectives.
